WHAT IS A CONDENSATE POT?

A condensate pot is an essential part of a steam system that allows for the safe and efficient collection of condensed steam, or condensate. It is a vessel that is typically attached to a steam line and is designed to trap and hold the condensate, allowing it to be easily drained from the system when necessary. They are commonly used in industrial and commercial settings where steam is used for heating, cleaning, or energy generation.

They are available in a variety of sizes and materials to suit various applications and system requirements. They are typically made from materials that can withstand high temperatures and pressures, such as stainless Steel, Alloy Steel, Carbon Steel, and special alloys like Inconel and Monel. Some Condensate Pot manufacturers also offer specialized condensate pots designed for use in corrosive or hazardous environments or for specific applications such as the Mining industry, Oil and gas industry, Pharmaceutical industry, Power generation, and many more!

How does a condensate pot work?

Condensate pots need to be installed between set-ups for flow measurement and transmitters to collect condensed fluid during the flow of steam through pipes. It is prominent to install condensate vertically or horizontally per flow lines between the flow meter and transmitter for effective results. These pots enhance the measurement precision and ensure the condensation process in the impulse line will not interfere with the pressure variation sensing and lower gauge line errors.

Darshil condensate pots are available in two types of end connection options, namely:
  • Socket weld
  • Screwed

Condensate Pot Applications & Uses

The purpose of a condensate pot is to prevent the buildup of water or other liquids in a pipeline, which can cause damage or reduce the efficiency of the system. Here are some of the applications & Uses of Condensate pot

  • Steam systems
  • HVAC systems
  • Chemical processing
  • Oil and gas industry
  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Power generation
  • Food and beverage industry
  • Mining industry
  • Petrochemical industry and so on

Condensate pot working principle

The working principle of a condensate pot is to collect and hold condensed liquids such as steam or gas, which prevents the buildup of liquid in a pipeline. Condensate pots are installed in a pipeline either horizontally or vertically. When steam or gas enters the condensate pot, it cools down and condenses into liquid, which accumulates in the pot. The liquid drains out of the bottom of the pot and is carried away by the pipeline. This process prevents the accumulation of liquid in the pipeline, which can cause damage or reduce the efficiency of the system. The condensate pot works in conjunction with other devices such as steam traps to control the flow of condensed liquids. Steam traps are used to drain condensate from a pipeline while preventing the escape of steam or gas. The combination of a condensate pot and a steam trap efficiently removes condensed liquids from the pipeline, preventing damage or loss of efficiency.

Condensate Pot Design

Condensate Pots are fabricated from Seamless pipes. Standard pipe sizes are 2″ to 3″. Connection fittings are then installed on Condensate Pots be it NPT or welded socket adaptors, Butt Welds…etc. Condensate Pots Drawing is available for your custom-made needs.

Steam Condensate Pot

At DARSHIL our Steam Condensate Pots are widely employed to condense the fluid entering the differential pressure transmitter, thus providing good accuracy by controlling the condensate level. Our customers appreciate and are very pleased with these Pots, as they are straightforward to use and install, as well as ideal for guaranteeing the condensation of steam in the impulse lines for a precise differential pressure flow measurement on steam applications.

How to Install a Condensate Pot?

The Units should be positioned either vertically or horizontally between the primary (Flow Meter) and the secondary (transmitter/gauge), providing a barrier for the line fluid and enabling the direct detection of flow conditions. To ensure accuracy, these Units should be mounted at the same level to avoid any potential errors stemming from varying head levels of fluid in the linking pressure lines.

Here are the general steps for installing a condensate pot:

  • Identify the location for the condensate pot: The pot should be installed at a low point in the steam system where condensate can naturally collect.
  • Prepare the installation site: The installation site should be cleaned and cleared of any obstructions. Any necessary supports or brackets should also be installed at this time.
  • Install the inlet and outlet connections: The steam inlet and condensate outlet connections should be installed on the condensate pot. The connections should be properly aligned and securely tightened.
  • Connect the condensate pot to the steam system: The condensate pot should be connected to the steam system using appropriate piping and fittings. Any valves or other components necessary for the installation should also be installed at this time.
  • Test the installation: Once the condensate pot is installed, it should be tested to ensure that it is functioning properly. This can be done by introducing steam into the system and checking for any leaks or other issues.
  • Maintain the condensate pot: Regular maintenance is important to ensure the continued operation of the condensate pot. This may include inspecting the pot for damage or corrosion, cleaning the pot as necessary, and checking the inlet and outlet connections for any signs of wear or leaks.
